parents deal with issues, overcome obstacles, and to provide resources
to better help parents raise their teens.

Parenting

Separation
This
workshop
focuses on the needs of children when parents separate and how you can
help meet those needs.
Your
children need your love and support throughout the separation, which is
a difficult time for them. They also need your love and support through
the post-separation years, as your family adjusts to a new life.

A 10
week parenting program for Parents of Pre-Teens and Teens who are
struggling to understand & respond to difficult behaviour.

Provides
new information about teen-parent relationship and adolescent
development.

Helps
parents see choices that support healthy relationships while
setting
limits and
helping their teen to move forward.
†
Parents
are presented with scenarios that open new options for responding
to their teen's
difficult behaviour.

Nobody's
Perfect Parenting Program
New
date to be announced for January 2011, participants must preregister.
The
Nobody's Perfect Parenting Program is a preventive parenting education
program which is intended to improve parents' abilities to maintain and
promote the health of their preschool children ages 0 - 5 years.
The program is targeted at parents who attend voluntarily and possess
any two of the following characteristics:

Under
25 years of age
†
Single
parent
†
Low
income - under $15,000 per year, or on social assistance,
or on unemployment insurance
†
Looking
for help with parenting skills
†
Isolated
socially, geographically, or linguistically
Parents
typically meet for two hour sessions over six weeks. Sessions are
led by two trained facilitators. A variety of material is provided
to parents, including five illustrated booklets on the topics of
"behaviour", "parents", "body",
"mind", and "safety". Transportation,
childcare, and snacks are provided to participants.
The
Nobody's Perfect Parenting Program runs two to three times a year, one
of which is usually run in Sicamous. There is no fee for this
program.

you are interested in registering for this program your name, contact
number and date of registration will be put on the wait list. You
will be contacted by one of the facilitators once the next scheduled
group has been established, at which time you will be asked to confirm
if you will be attending and/or wish to remain on the wait list for the
next scheduled group, providing you meet the program's criteria for
participation.

Alice
Daniels, executive director and legal advocate of Columbia/Kootenay
Advocacy and Education Resource Society will be presenting information
on child protection
and family law.
Empowering
Children: Parenting Skills for Today
New date
to be announced for January 2011, participants must preregister.
Topics will include
discussions on current parenting practices, how to provide an
environment that will enable your grandchild to behave better by
actively listening to your grandchild, making your grandchild feel safe,
and providing order and organization.
There will also be a thorough discussion on setting limits,
consistent rules, and natural and logical consequences.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Network

Provincial and national
organizations with which grandparents can connect will be highlighted.
These organizations offer excellent information, advocacy and
opportunities to network.

This
group is a support/educational group provided once
every two months. Each
group runs for 2 hours and is open to any grandparent who is the primary
caregiver for their grandchild(ren).
